ABOUT JEN GASSIRARO

ARTIST STATEMENT | BIO

My visual language is rooted in gestural mark making with a dose of pop culture. I am inspired by abstract expression, romantic florals, fashion, wallpaper, window designs, nostalgic photographs & the color pink (...). By intertwining these influences, I create art that has an overtly feminine surface. My drawings are poems or a visual love note to a former lover. They are rooted in pure emotion. Along the way, I have found myself questioning who I am now as a mother, who I once was, and who I am supposed to be. What is the story I want to write for myself? My practice of making on various surfaces helps me piece together those questions.

Jennifer Gassiraro obtained a BFA from Texas Christian University and a MFA from University of North Texas. Gassiraro lives and works in Dallas, Texas where she is the owner of ZOE JO, a design studio that sells artwork to retailers. She is a single mother to two beautiful red headed daughters.
